I love sports of all kinds, but football, baseball, NASCAR and hockey are my top four. The others I will watch to pass the time or have on as background noise. Being from Atlanta I have to support the home teams: Braves, Falcons, Hawks and Thrashers.

Being a shutterbug I have my camera at most every sporting event I go to. I have been lucky to capture some exciting moments in sports.

I'm still not really sure where this page will progress to. When I end up with some really nice pictures from a sporting event I have been to, I will post it here..

Atlanta Thrashers

Hockey is officially back in Atlanta. On September 18, 1999 the Thrashers and Rangers officially opened Philips Arena. In January of 2000, the Thrashers hosted the Philadelphia Flyers, in what was the last game in the orange and black for superstar Eric Lindros. Sometime in the first period, Lindros suffered another in a series of career threatening concussions and didn't play again for Philly. Sit close enough to the ice, and you feel like you are the goalie.

All Star Week 2000

For the first time since 1972, baseball's summer classic was played in Atlanta. Far removed from that summer day in Fulton County Stadium where Hammerin' Hank rounded the bases, the Braves were showing off the jeweled diamond known as Turner Field. Sammy Sosa, Ken Griffey Jr. and a host of others took to the field that muggy July night.

Although it isn't really sports per se, Budweiser brought the Clydesdales into town to be part of All Star week festivities. These pictures of the hitch and the horses can't come close to describing the awesome feeling you get when standing next to these magnificent creatures.

NASCAR

There's nothing quite like the smell of rubber on a beautiful Alabama spring day. These are a few pictures from the Talladega spring race in 2002. First there was Happy Hour for the Winston Cup cars, including eventual winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. Afterwards, the Busch cars ran, going two and three wide at 180 mph, before a huge wreck knocked more than half the field out of competition not a full 15 laps into the event. The few cars that remained relied on quick pitstops to put them in contention for a trip to victory lane.

Atlanta Motor Speedway, one of the fastest tracks on the NASCAR circuit. Bobby Labonte won the spring race of 2003 race and did some victory doughnuts afterwards. Dale Jr. ran well that day too, finishing third. I love the new paint scheme for the 2003 DEI cars, with the 3 stripes to form the big E on the doors.

Talladega 2003, Dale Jr. won the Busch race on Saturday and then took his fourth straight at the big track on Sunday.

Atlanta, March 2004.  After a stunning pre-race ceremony saluting the armed forces, including a Chinook helicopter bringing in the pace car and a flyover of A-10 fighter planes, they got down to racing.  The day ended with Dale Jr. lighting up the tires in a victory celebration.
